Leathers

Pick your leather.

Every Bible rebind is one thick piece of full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, wrapped around your Bible, edge-lined, and hand-stitched. Pick a leather, then pick a color. Each leather has its own page, with its stats and colors.

Pueblo leather by Badalassi Carlo
My personal favorite

Pueblo

Tannery: Badalassi Carlo, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 5 oz for this build  ·  Temper: medium

A rugged, matte leather with a distinctive raw texture that burnishes to a rich shine wherever your hands touch it. Every Pueblo cover becomes uniquely yours — the more you carry it, the more character it gains.

Best for Bibles you handle every day. It wears in, not out.

Waxy leather by Badalassi Carlo
Most popular

Waxy

Tannery: Badalassi Carlo, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 5 oz for this build  ·  Temper: medium

A pull-up leather with a waxy finish that shifts in tone as it flexes — lighter where it bends, deeper where it rests. Rich color, soft hand, and a patina that tells the story of everywhere it's been.

The one most people choose. There's a reason.

Minerva Box leather by Badalassi Carlo
Tumbled

Minerva Box

Tannery: Badalassi Carlo, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 5 oz for this build  ·  Temper: soft

A pebbled grain with a dressier look. The pebble is not stamped in — the hide is tumbled until the grain rises on its own. So the grain varies across the hide: tighter in one place, softer in another. That is the nature of it, and no two covers come out exactly alike.

The raised grain hides scuffs well, too. The marks of daily carry blend into the texture instead of standing out.

Badalassi Carlo · Starts at $150

Lochness

Tannery: Badalassi Carlo, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 1.8 mm (4.5 oz)  ·  Temper: medium

A shrunken, rugged grain with a fat-waxed feel — a rougher, more textured cousin of Pueblo and Waxy, in the same thickness and temper.

Colors: Bone, Cognac, Walnut, Black, Olive, Navy.

Conceria Walpier · Starts at $150

Dollaro

Tannery: Conceria Walpier, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 2.0 mm (5 oz)  ·  Temper: firm

A pebbled leather with a flat, even grain and a firm hand. The pebble is printed onto the surface, so it stays regular across the whole cover, and some colors have a two-tone finish — lighter on the tops of the pebble, darker in the recesses. It holds its shape well, which suits a Bible that gets carried every day. Pick Dollaro if you want a pebbled grain but a firmer, more structured cover than Minerva Box. Whiskey is the color that shows the two-tone best.

Colors: Natural, Whiskey, Mahogany, Brown, Taupe, Black, Red, Orange.

Buttero

Tannery: Conceria Walpier, Tuscany, Italy  ·  Thickness: 5 oz for this build  ·  Temper: firm

A smooth, firm leather with a clean aniline finish. Order it at 5 oz for a Bible cover — thinner is too light for a one-piece wrap, thicker is too stiff unsplit.

Colors: a wide range — tell me the color you want in the notes on the form, and I will check what is available.

Horween · Starts at $150

Horween Dublin

Tannery: Horween, Chicago, USA  ·  Thickness: 4–5 oz  ·  Temper: medium to firm

A vegetable-tanned, waxed leather with a strong pull-up — it lightens where it bends and darkens back as it rests. It burnishes well, takes a clean edge, and ages with a deep, warm patina. This is the American tannery option on the menu, for the same thick, rugged build as the Italian leathers. Pick Dublin if you want that Horween character and pull-up, in a leather firm enough for a one-piece wrap. It is ordered per job, so allow a little extra time.

Colors: Black, Brown Nut, Cobalt Blue, English Tan, Natural, Light Natural, Olde English, Russet Brown.

How to choose

  • Smooth or pebbled? Pueblo and Waxy are smooth. Dollaro is pebbled and Minerva Box is tumbled — Dollaro firm and even, Minerva softer with a grain that varies across the hide.
  • Firm or soft? Dollaro and Buttero are the firmest here. Pueblo and Waxy sit in the middle. Minerva Box is the softest, dressiest feel.
  • Plain or characterful? Waxy and Dublin shift in tone as they flex — that is the pull-up. Pueblo burnishes to a shine where your hands touch it. Dollaro keeps its two-tone look from the start.
  • Not sure? Say so on the form. Waxy is a safe place to start, and I will talk it through with you before anything is agreed.

If you want another leather you have in mind, tell me in the notes on the form — it may add to the cost. Whatever you choose, rebinds start at $150, and add-ons increase the price.
